Babies, Babies & More Babies!
Babies are everywhere! This has been a summer filled with new babies. My friend, Christy, who lives in Arizona had her little boy in June so I went to visit her a few weeks ago and meet the little guy. Another friend of ours had twins recently and we got to visit them last Tuesday. Then Wednesday night Darren and Kelli had their baby girl and we went to visit them Saturday. My brother had their fifth child Thursday night. It’s crazy!! But it’s so much fun shopping for baby stuff. There are so many cute baby things out on the market.
Marin had a few rough weeks recently. She had strep for a few days and had to go to the doctor and get a shot. That was an experience as she screamed bloody murder when they stuck it in her leg. Then a week after we got rid of the strep she had some type of stomach bug and she was up a good portion of the night throwing up. She was fine the next day after we gave her pedialyte and crackers but we were exhausted from being up all night so I worked from home and Eric took a sick day to recoup.
She starts ballet class again next Monday. Now that she is a little older I am hoping she takes direction a little better and doesn’t just run around the room like she did last year. Since she already has the uniform from last time all I have to buy is ballet shoes since her feet have grown a bit. I have to keep reminding myself to get that done before Monday.
It’s been a hot summer and we are only halfway through August. This triple digit heat is getting to me. I’d like to take Marin to the park or something but it is unbearable outside and even with the sun goes down the humidity is still horrible. I am counting down the days until fall season begins. It’s my favorite time of the year. I think October is my favorite month of the year. Our anniversary is that month, the weather starts to cool down and I love Halloween time.
We have procrastinated painting the guest room. I wanted to paint it ages ago when we first bought the house but all the other rooms took priority. When we painted Eric’s office several months ago I decided I would paint the guest room also but we got busy and put it off again. I am now adamant that I need to paint it before I just give up and it never gets done. So in the upcoming weeks that is my goal. After discussing it with Eric he only got excited about doing it after I mentioned I would like a two tone wall with wood trim around the room. He immediately decided we needed a miter saw and jumped on the computer to find one. He found one on Craigslist that was in great condition. Brand new it would cost $120 but he got this one for $60. Now we’ll just wait and see if he can get the trim cut and installed correctly.
It’s been a while…Ketchup time
Okay. I know I have not been keeping up with posting my blogs and for that I’m sorry. I have quite a bit of info from the past couple of weeks.
First, Marin's actual birthday which was on the 7th, I took off work and spent the day with her. We woke up and watched Arthur and Sesame Street. There are some new characters on Sesame Street from when I was little. I love Grover, he will always be my favorite on that show. We then went over to Eric’s neck of the woods and had lunch with him at the Willow Bend Mall. When he went back to work we stayed behind and shopped around for a little while. We came across their children’s play area where they have a foam type playground with a breakfast theme. So there were huge foam objects that looked like food. Marin liked the ketchup bottle. She walked right up to it and started hugging it. It was really cute to watch her. After that we went to Target to buy her a birthday gift. Surprisingly, she didn’t act like she wanted anything. I found a toy keyboard she kind of liked but all she wanted to do was listen to the songs that came on it. So instead of buying that I went to the CD section and bought her a toddler CD. It has songs like “The Wheels on the Bus” and “I’m a Little Teapot”. We listened to it on the drive home and she was so exhausted from the day that she passed out halfway there.
Friday she went to the doctor for her shots. That was very unpleasant. They had to prick her little toe to test for anemia and then they gave her 4 shots in her legs. She wasn’t too happy with me after that. We headed out that afternoon towards East Texas where we were giving her a birthday party on Saturday. We headed down a little too fast because Eric got a speeding ticket. GO Speed Racer! Tsk, Tsk…
The party was fun. She had a few kids show up to help her celebrate. I let her wear her pretty pink dress for the occasion. We played “Pin the Flame on the Dragon” (it was a princess theme) and we hit the piñata. My dad gave the kids rides on the famous Train ride he created. Marin was a little shy about digging into her cake. She ate her name off the top of it but didn’t do too much damage to it other than that. After all the times I’ve told her not to play with her food I guess she was a little confused when I was encouraging it with the cake. She got plenty of presents, a lot of pretty spring and summer clothes. Then that night (as you’ve read from Eric’s previous blog) we had movie night on the big screen. The High School Musical 2 would not play for some reason. (Don’t worry Alli, I went back to Wal-Mart and exchanged it so you’ll get it back, I promise). So instead, we watched “Secrets of NIMH” and “Aladdin”. It got a little chilly on the second movie so I was so waiting for it to be over.
Last Wednesday, the daycare called and told me that Marin had a fever of 101. So I left work to pick her up but she seemed okay. She was playing and didn’t act like she wasn’t feeling well. I made an appointment with the doctor anyway. She tested positive for Strep. So we got a prescription and Eric stayed home with her on Thursday. She was back to daycare on Friday and then I started feeling lousy so I had to leave work and start my weekend early. I painted Marin’s bathroom on Sunday. It wasn’t that bad since it was a small room but since it was so small the fumes were getting to me. I had to take several breaks to get some fresh air. I think it turned out okay. I was off yesterday since it was President’s Day. Yipee, you gotta love those federal holidays! ![]()
Hello Gov’ner!
It has now been 3 nights that Marin has slept through the night without feeding!
Week and a half later
It has been a week and a half since Marin was born and a week since we left the hospital.
